Authenticity of Bandung local taste

Bandung is the capital city of West Java, Indonesia. Bandung’s people called sundanesse people with the sundanesse langguage and culture. Bandung itself is the third biggest city in Indonesia behind Jakarta and Surabaya. Bandung is also one of the most popular tourist destination and known for tourist to shop, enjoy the nature and the foods. As bandung doesn’t have any sea’s and surrounded by volcanic mountain, Banudng become one of the coolest place in Indonesia.

Bandung has their own local food which is called sundanesse food (based on the people who called sundanesse). Beside the signature sundanesse food, Bandung also well-known for any other local taste which is famous and popular in Indonesia as well, such as, bola ubi (sweet potato balls), aci digoreng (fried tapioca), seblak (boiled crackers cooked with special chilli sauce), mie kocok (noodles), and many more. The signature sundanesse food is rice served with fried chicken or grill chicken, sambal, lalab (vegetables), and fried toufu and tempeh. the rice itself has a lot of choices starting from liwet rice, grilled rice ( wrap in banana leaf), normal rice and sometimes brown rice. The differences between eating in sundanesse restaurant in bandung and in other restaurants or cafes is the atmosphere inside the restaurants, it always a big different as sundanese restaurant always bringing traditional instrumental in the interior designs of the restaurants. For seblak, bola ubi, cireng (aci digoreng) and mie kocok is actually a street food which are become famous and sometimes certain restaurants sell it for a snack, beside mie kocok, because its a good companion for tea or coffee.

Nowadays, in the new era of life with a lot of technology and people become more creative and have a courage to open up a new businesses, a lot of new restaurants and cafes opened in bandung in the past few years. Certain restaurants and cafes become famous and show up on online platform to become one of the choices for tourists to go while travelling to bandung to get some foods and drinks. But then, people, in my sight, become more about the restaurants itself rather than the authencity of the foods meanwhile some of the sundanesse restaurants is not bad at all not only the food but also the interior such as, pandan wangi restaurant. Pandan wangi is one of the most famous sundanesse restaurant in bandung for tourists. Online platform as one of the sources for tourist’s knowledge sometimes make people misunderstood between famous and authentic local food in bandung. Because, sometimes they mention famous food in bandung but not the authentic local in bandung but said it as the local food such as brownies. Bandung also famous for the brownies as some places sell a really tasty brownies. But then, brownies itself comes from united states of america not from bandung according to thenibble.com. beside brownies, Bandung also famous for the tahu gejrot. Its made from toufu that smashed and served with sauce. Its become one of the famous street food in certain place in Bandung as well and tourists who come to Bandung sometimes looking for it as in certain online platform they mention it as bandung foods. But then, the truth is tahu gejrot come from Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia according to liputan6.com. The place where it come from is not that far from Bandung but it is a different place with Bandung. As one of the biggest and famous city in Indonesia, Bandung could do better things to promote their local food as well as their nature and shopping centre. Because, a lot of tourists come to bandung every year and if they could sell a lot of their local food to make people now about their food.

In my opinion, Bandung local taste have that power to attract tourists to come to bandung. It is not only about the culture, nature or the shooping centre. Because, while sundanese people promote their local food and restaurants through the online platform or anything, tourists can feel the culture inside the restaurant also. For me, it can’t be from the local people itself to promote the local food but the government should help through the website as they have the website to promote Bandung as a tourism place through wonderful indonesia program. Through the government official website they can help to promote the local food as the unique things and culture to attract the tourists while they are promoting the nature as well. As for me, Bandung local taste is unique that can combine the culture in the environtment and interior through the foods that they sell in the restaurants. Although, it is a lot of traditional foods but now a lot of restaurants sell sundanese food in the restaurants, certain sundanese snacks also sold in the coffee shops. It means that the demand of sundanese food in bandung is really big but then to make it well-known, we, as bandung people, should try to promote it widely.
